Salsa (obviously) bachata, reggaeton, merengue.
I know that many salseros don't like merengue, but I'm one who likes a good one thrown in every couple of sets.
My favortie types of salsa are PR salsa and the NY sound from the 70's. Of course I like the usual suspects: El Gran Combo, Eddie Palmieri, Sonora Ponceņa, Larry Harlow, Willie Colon, Wayne Gorbea, GSR, Roberto Roena, Bobby Valentin...etc.
Here in LA most of the larger salsa clubs don't play a lot of the music I like. Another reason I prefer the smaller, less well known clubs is because I seem to like the music better. They simply play more of the suff that I like to listen and dance to.

Looking for Dance Partner

No. I've never performed or competed and I don't expect that I ever will. I'd much rather see two bad ass social dancers than a coreographed routine.
Of course there are exceptions. I love watching the Eddie Torres dancers; my brother in law dances for Eddie. Also Plan B, Mario B's team. Mario and Rudy are great guys and fun to hang out with when I'm in NY or they're here in LA.
The one couple that I absolutely love to watch though are Tito and Tamara from Puerto Rico. I love their style.

Dance background, philosphy, passions and ideals

Many people assume (incorrectly) that since I'm Puerto Rican that I've been dancing salsa since I was a child. Growing up in the LA area with such a small Puerto Rican/Caribeņo population meant that salsa music/dancing was pretty hard to come by. Since neither of my parents were into the music/dance I gravitated more towards hip-hop music. It wasn't until I was in my early to mid 20's that I became really interested in salsa music/dancing.
I started dancing socially during the summer of 2001. Initially I started dancing On1 like most people here in LA and then in 2004 I learned how to dance On2 with Bernard Martinez and his wife when they moved here from NY. Since then my preferred style of dance has become NY On2. During my last trip to Puerto Rico during the congress of 2004 I also learned how to dance the Puerto Rican 2. I can't really explain my preference for On2, that's just what I prefer. On most songs I just feel the 2 and the 6 more than the 1 and the 5. With that being said, I usually let the song dictate the beat I break on. Since Colombian salsa is very popular here in LA, there are some songs where I do feel the 1 and the 5 more than the 2 and the 6. That's due to the fact that Colombian salsa typically emphasizes the 1 and the 5 and downplays the 2 and the 6.
Stylisically I prefer the NY style of dancing to the LA style. However since most people in LA dance On1, I still dance On1 as well as On2. The way I see it; the more styles you know, the more people you can dance with.

Favorite Dance Spots, Destinations & Local Scene

Favorite dance spots: El Cid, Cuban Bistro, and Bernard Martinez' studio
I'm really not into the bigger clubs in LA: The Mayan, Granada, Cohiba's, etc...
I think I burned myself out on them and to be completely honest, I'm not crazy about the LA salsa scene as a whole. The clubs I used to like the most when I started dancing have either closed or changed to the point to where they just don't do it for me anymore. Fortunately for me, salsa isn't my life, just one of my hobbies.
What I enjoy now is finding smaller clubs that not a lot of people know about that have good music and a good vibe.
