Casino in the A-town is the minority amongst the other styles of salsa. We (casino) need to do a better job of being on the "scene" at different functions around Atlanta, that way casino can spread to those who have not witnessed it.

I believe the time is now for Casino to be displayed to the hundreds of salseros in Atlanta.

Thanks for the input kidcasino. I wish all of you could have been in Miami for the Congress, it was HOTTTTTT!!!!!!, I LOVED the opportunity to dance with women from Columbia, Mexico, Cuba, and especially Miami. This really put a second wind in me for my love of Casino (Thanks ladies). I hope we can continue this in Vancouver and hopefully one day in A-town.

Yeah, I am in favor of sreading Casino, however, ruedas are not welcome at a number of clubs for good reason.  Ruedas always assume the right of way and clubs don't like ruedas because they scare off the other dancers. And then the Casineros stop supporting the clubs they took over.  Too many Casineros prefer ruedas to partner dancing because that is all they learn in class.  I agree that it looks really cool when all of the moves are synchronized in a rueda, but ruedas also stifle creativity.  I do not want to dance exactly like everyone else or I would dance ballroom style.  For me, the advantage of Casino style is the freedom to express your interpretation of the music freely .  That said, I  would  love to get together with Casineros from the West Coast,  Europe,  Australia, etc and  add a little non-Miami  style to  local  Casino.

But maybe you have the same problem we have?  Space... some of the functions around us don't allow for rueda because there just isn't enough space.  And, believe it or not, we've been asked to not dance rueda a couple of times because they felt it was taking away from their "scene".  Thankfully we do have a couple of clubs big enough but they are few and far between!

Lluvia, Simona, Que Bolá!!!

Very true.

Good article Simona, you are so right on your write-up.

I also think the problem is that lots of Casino instructors around the U.S. teach Rueda de Casino without understanding what Casino means. Maybe becuase the only exposure they have with the dance is a video.

Another misconception is about the music. Many people who are not familiar with Casino refer to Timba as Rueda or Casino music.

Lluvia, this will help us to keen in touch with Casineros from other cities and find out where they travel, as well to have their support when we do local events.

Simona and Mike will be at an event in Palm Spring CA for New Years with many other Casineros.  The guys from Detroit will be there as well. Maybe we can put a group together to support their event and go with them. Next year we can have them in Atlanta.

Mucho Aché!!!

I agree lluvia...After witnessing the commitment and energy in Miami with everyone "getting down" with Casino. My mouth was to the floor and that could easily happen for Atlanta. Show your style and love for this historic dance.  I would go anywhere...even away from Havana in hopes of spreading Casino in Atlanta...Pick the place...Or I will...and lets Salsa!
