Timba, Son, Salsa dura, Batchata, Meregue, Cumbia, Hip Hop, Rock, Alternative, Metal, Classical...no Opera.
Some of my fav bands right now (it changes weekly) are Adalberto Alvarez, Calle Real, Cesar Pedroso, Manolito Simonet, Maikel Blanco, and Los Ases de la Timba. Too many others to list, though.

About Yourself

I grew up in Nome, Alaska and moved to Oregon for college, which is fortunate because I otherwise wouldn't have been able to take part in the flourishing Cuban dance scene here. I never quite finished with any of the degrees that got started (loser), but I hope to finish one in the next year and then go back to school for architecture. Right now I run a drafting business in Corvallis, which takes far too much of my time away from the important things...like traveling to sample various salsa scenes around the globe.

Dance background, philosphy, passions and ideals

It's the same old story you've heard a million times. Some cute chick suckered me into dancing salsa and I got hooked. For me, going out is all about being around friends, enjoying good music, playing pool, and doing a bit of dancing. I'm not so much into the scenes where a lot of folks go out to show off instead of socialize. I LOVE live music (my apologies to my DJ friends). Even if it's not the greatest band, there's something about a group of musicians in a room creating on the stage while a mob of dancers creates on the floor.

I know this sounds like I've absolutely lost my mind, but THE PLATINUM IN CORVALLIS, OREGON IS THE COOLEST PLACE I'VE DANCED IN THE WORLD. After going out in New York, L.A., Miami, and everyplace else I've been, I'm always looking forward to going out in Corvallis. It's all about cool peeps.
